September 3, 2006

 

 The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 6200 blk of Cold Harbor Road at approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning for a reported shooting.

 

 When Deputies arrived they located Jennifer Michelle Willis, a 26-year-old white female, suffering from an apparent gun shot wound.  She was declared deceased at the scene.  Derek Edward Burkhead, a 23-year-old white male, who also resides at this residence, was arrested at the scene without incident and charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Burkwood is currently incarcerated at Pamunkey Regional Jail and his being held with no bond.

 

 Investigators are continuing to collect information and evidence in this case to determine the exact sequence of events.  The Medical Examiner, upon review, will make the final determination on the cause of death.
