ARRESTS MADE IN PROPERTY DAMAGE CRIMES

(August 15, 2006)

The Hanover Sheriff’s Office has arrested three Hanover teenagers in connection with a series of residential break-ins, vandalisms, larcenies, and other criminal acts that have occurred over the past two months.

Three juveniles, two ages 17, and one age 16 were charged on Sunday in connection with a string of incidents dating back to June 16.

The Sheriff’s Office has documented three residential break-ins, two aggravated assaults involving the shooting of pedestrians with pellet guns, one incident of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and multiple incidents of vandalism and larceny from vehicles.  These incidents occurred in several Hanover County neighborhoods including Ashcreek, Milestone, Foxhead, and Totopotomoy.  Those arrested for these acts reside in the affected neighborhoods. The damage to private property is estimated in the thousands of dollars.

The Sheriff’s Office has already recorded many of the incidents, but would like for anyone who has not contacted the Sheriff’s Office to do so and provide any additional information regarding property damage and repair cost for use in the prosecution of these individuals. They may call 365-6140 or go to hanoversheriff.com and click on the link for mailbox and vehicle vandalisms to send an e-mail to the Investigative Division.

BUILDING INSPECTIONS CAN BE SCHEDULED ONLINE

 (August 15, 2006)

Homeowners as well as contractors can now schedule their Hanover County building inspections online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To schedule an inspection, go to www.co.hanover.va.us/egov.htm. You will need the following information to schedule an inspection:

  1. ·       Your permit number, which is assigned during the application process and can be found on the paperwork you receive.
  2. ·       Your Pin number, which is located on the second line of your permit
  3. ·       The type of inspection to be scheduled, which is located on the second page of the permit.

All inspection requests will be reviewed for accuracy and the proper inspection sequence. Should a request be incorrect or out of sequence, the request will be cancelled.

The system will give you five dates from which to choose beginning with the next work day. Within eight hours of the inspection, the inspection results will be available and posted in the system.

“We believe this will provide another level of service and convenience for Hanover County residents and contractors,” said Richard Bartell, Chief Building Official. “Over the last few years we have steadily increased the number of services that are available online and the response to this has been very positive.”

Additional services available online allow you to view your application information, check the tracking and status of all permits associated with your application and view any comments associated with your applications and permits.
